Twitter much? I don’t. And according to a recent study a good amount of teens aren’t using it either. That’s not to say the folks at Twitter haven’t created an amazing application that has swarmed millions of people worldwide and spawned a generation of twitter startups hungry for your stream. With all the buzz, big brands, celebs and plain ol’ Joes using it, you have to wonder how long will it last?
I like to think of myself asĀ pretty tech savvy and hip to all things new–I created a twitter account back when it first launched–but there’s something about the service that isn’t sticky enough. Maybe it’s my circle friends, maybe I just don’t care about learning twitter syntax (retweets, hashtags, etc) or maybe I could care less about status updates in general, but I’ve found no particular use for it in my day-to-day. And to be frank, any time there’s a blog post about Twitter, my eyes glaze over my thoughts travel elsewhere and I think about the days of the AIM ecosystem. It was nice while it lasted, until something more integrated came along.
My hope for Twitter is that it will get bought out by some company and will be integrated into a service that I use daily–like e-mail. However, I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of Google Wave and I’m pretty sure upon it’s release I’ll forget that a company like Twitter even existed.
